Potty Training
Potty training a puppy can be very frustrating. Your puppy is a lot like a human toddler, if it is quiet then worry. Puppies don't know what you expect from them until you properly train them.
Potty training dogs is easiest when they are young puppies.
Potty training your puppy will require a great deal of patience and consistency. While potty training may not be a simple process for some dogs, especially small breeds, most dogs are fully capable of being completely potty trained.
The key to success is the timing of IN and OUT. Young puppies take IN food or water and usually within 15 or 20 minutes, they pee or poop OUT.
So your job is to get the puppy to where you want him to be in time for the OUT moment.
The basics of a simple potty training routine for a puppy.
Take him outside (and stay till he's done)
As soon as he wakes up in the morning
Right after his breakfast
Right after his lunch
Right after his naps
Right after his dinner
Right after any snacks of much size
Right before his bedtime
If he whimpers in the night
Remember: You can only feed or give him water when you're ready to take him out.
If he does pee or poop to an area where you don't want him to, just quietly clean it up and ignore him, do not yell at or punish him.
For an effective dog potty training, the area should be thoroughly cleaned leaving no trace of odor so that it will be unlikely for him to unload on that same spot.
Praise him in a cheery voice when he produces.
Watch the puppy closely whenever he is loose in the house and confine him to an appropriately sized crate when you cannot watch the dog carefully. This will help to prevent accidents in the house which can be detrimental to the potty training process.
